On 16 June 2022, Rot-Weiss Essen held its first public training session for the 2022/2023 3rd division season at the Hafenstraße stadium in Essen. Almost 3,000 fans came to see the promotion heroes and also the new players in the team under the leadership of the new head coach Christoph Dabrowski.
