The 85th staging of the Belgian one-day race Gent Wevelgem on 26 March 2023 as part of the UCI WorldTour 2023 was won by Frenchman Christophe Laporte (Jumbo-Visma) ahead of his teammate Wout van Aert and Sep Vanmarcke (Israel-Premier Tech).
The classic one-day race Gent-Wevelgem (since 2016 Gent-Wevelgem in Flanders Fields) is one of the most famous Belgian road cycling races. It has been held on the roads of Belgium’s western provinces since 1934 and stands out for its relatively flat profile, but has a short but enormously steep and unpaved climb, the Kemmelberg. These climbs are typical for the region and are called “Helling” in Flemish. Since 2011, the race has been part of the successor series UCI WorldTour.
