Highlights of the TuSEM Essen v GWD Minden handball match and our handball photos

On matchday 23 of the 2nd German Handball League, TUSEM Essen suffered a disappointing 25:31 home defeat against GWD Minden and slipped to twelfth place in the table. Minden, led by a strong Malte Semisch in goal, who saved a total of 15 shots, and the assertive Mohamed Darmoul at the back, dominated both in defence and attack. Essen had problems exploiting the attacks effectively, even when Minden’s Luka Sebetic was shown the red card early on. The Essen offence could often only be stopped by fouls on Alexander Schoss, but the resulting superior numbers were not exploited.

TUSEM gave Minden too much space in defence, allowing the visitors to build a six-goal lead by half-time. The picture did not change in the second half either: Essen’s defence allowed large gaps and the team made simple mistakes in attack. Minden capitalised on this and was able to extend its lead through Mats Korte and Szymon Dzialakiewicz, who both scored seven goals apiece. Despite the attempt to reduce the deficit, there was no turnaround.

Greta Kerekes from Hungary won the women’s 60m hurdles, while Daniel Roberts from the USA won the men’s race.

A newly introduced competition for para-sprinters saw Maxcel Amo Manu from Italy as the winner. The event underlined the popularity of athletics in Germany, although the sport faces challenges as a spectator sport.

Despite Dortmund equalising in the meantime through Otuali, Münster proved to be more effective in converting chances with further goals from Batmaz and Grodowski. Dortmund’s efforts to make up the deficit were ultimately unsuccessful, even though Aidonis was able to reduce the deficit once again with a header. The Tetrahedron Bottrop (in german “Haldenereignis Emscherblick” Tetraeder) in Bottrop (Ruhr area / Germany), composed of steel pipes and cast iron nodes, is a symbol of structural change in the region. The construction was erected on a former mining spoil tip. The slag heap on Beckstraße belongs to the generation of slag heaps known as terraced mesas. It was built between 1969 and 1993 and has been owned by the Regionalverband Ruhr (formerly Kommunalverband Ruhrgebiet) since 1997.

The structure of the Tetrahedron Bottrop is around 50 metres high and complements the 65-metre-high slag heap. Free-form staircases and viewing platforms make the sculpture accessible. The stairs and platforms offer a unique view over the interior of the tower, the surface of the spoil tip and the panorama of the urban landscape along the Emscher.
The “Haldenereignis Emscherblick” was created as a project of the International Building Exhibition Emscher Park (IBA), RAG, the Kommunalverband Ruhrgebiet (KVR) and the city of Bottrop.

Our photos show the tetrahedron as well as the plateau and various panoramic views from the spoil tip. The pictures show, among other things, the paths/stairs to the slagheap, as well as the indoor ski centre (alpincenter) and the Prosper Haniel mine.
